Gilas loses to Jordan A to close elimination round of King Abdullah Cup


Gilas Pilipinas endured a second loss in the 10th King Abdullah Cup after bowing to Jordan A, 84-72, early Saturday (Manila time) at the Prince Hamzah Sport Hall in Amman.

Gilas wrapped up its elimination round campaign with two wins and two losses heading into the semifinals of the tournament.

Three Gilas players finished in double digits in the loss, with Jordan Heading leading the pack after scoring team-high 15 points to go with four rebounds and an assist.

Carl Tamayo finally found his rhythm after the rising cager carved out 14 markers while Justine Baltazar continued his fine showing with 10 points and six rebounds.

Gilas led, 41-36, at the half but were outplayed by the hosts in the third quarter, 31-15, as Jordan A took a double-digit lead at the end of three.

The visiting Filipinos tried to mount a comeback but could only come as close a seven, 70-63, in the fourth.
