An arnis world champion is bringing more attention to his sport, one TikTok video at a time.
Daniel Bernas, who has won several gold medals in the World Escrima Kali Arnis Federation Tournament, is posting arnis tutorial videos on TikTok.
"I'm expressing my passion for Philippine martial arts, as well as my passion for making videos," Bernas said in Oscar Oida's report on "State of the Nation" on Tuesday.
"I really love Arnis and at the same time, I want more people to know about it. I want more people to see it," he said in a mix of Filipino and English.

In his videos, Bernas said he is showing drills and practice activities with arnis as equipment. While Arnis is usually executed with rattan sticks, he said his drills can be done even with or without other equipment such as knives or bolo.
Aside from being a sport, Bernas said arnis can also be a kind of performance art, or even a form of exercise.
"It depends how you're being taught, it depends how you're practicing, it depends how you're training. It's important that when you're looking for a school or a teacher, you make that clear," he said.
"It can be a form of exercise if you practice it with the intent of using it for exercise," Bernas added.
Bernas hopes more Filipinos try arnis, the Philippines' national martial art.
"Maybe you want to experience something that is ours because it's a Filipino sport, it's a Filipino martial art. There's some pride there."
