Thirdy scores 21, Kiefer posts 20 as San-en gets payback with comeback OT win vs Shiga
Thirdy Ravena and the San-en NeoPhoenix exacted revenge against the Shiga Lakestars as they pulled off a come-from-behind overtime win, 101-96, in Division 1 of the Japan Professional Basketball League (B.League) on Sunday.
Thirdy scored 21 points alongside seven rebounds and five assists in his team's win while brother Kiefer, whose Shiga team won the first head-to-head matchup on Saturday, registered 20 markers and seven assists.
The Lakestars had the upper hand for the majority of the game, leading by as much as 18 points, 51-33, near the end of the first half. However, things started to turn around for San-en in the third period after the team tallied 32 points against Shiga's 21 to close with a six-point deficit, 72-66.
Shiga was up, 85-82, with 2:24 left in regulation, but a split from the free throw line by Justin Knox and a shot from Elias Harris at the 1:26 mark tied the game at 85. Ovie Soko missed the final basket for Shiga, bringing the game to an extra period.
San-en got hot at the start of overtime, going on a 7-0 run to widen the gap, and eventually steal the win from the Lakestars.
Aside from Ravena, three more players logged double-digits for San-en, with Harris posting 18, Robert Carter adding 17, and Shota Tsuyama finishing with 14.
Shiga's Soko totaled 20 points as well, while Sean Omara chipped in with 19. Ochi Nomoto and Novar Gadson added 14 and 10 points each.
"It definitely felt better than yesterday because this is kind of the opposite from what yesterday's game was," Thirdy said in a post-game interview.
San-en will play Niigata Albirex BB, Kobe Paras' team, next weekend.
Meanwhile, Kiefer and the Lakestars will face the Ibaraki Robots, the team of Javi Gomez de Liaño, next weekend.
