One-and-done Henry Galinato commits to UP Fighting Maroons

The University of the Philippine Fighting Maroons have secured the commitment of one-and-done Filipino-American prospect Henry Galinato, who will be eligible come UAAP Season 84.

Galinato first got in touch with the Katipunan-based school when UP Men's Basketball Team head of basketball operations Bo Perasol, through the Fil-Am Nation Select, conducted a private workout with him and two other prospects in the States.

In a statement on Thursday morning, Fil-Am Nation Select founder Cris Gopez confirmed Galinato’s commitment to UP, saying the 6-foot-6 forward is looking forward to boosting the Fighting Maroons.

"He’s excited to play for the University of the Philippines [and] to bring home a championship,” Gopez said.

Galinato last played for Benedictine University Mesa — a school that competes in NAIA--where he posted averages of 13.0 points and 9.6 rebounds in his senior year.

He will join a stacked UP roster that already features stars like Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, CJ Cansino, and Ricci Rivero.

Prior to COVID-19, UP wrapped up the Season 82 elimination round as the second seed with a 9-5 win-loss card but ultimately bowed out of contention after falling to UST in their stepladder semifinal clash. — LA, GMA News
