MVP, TNT's Erram speak out about physical Game 3 of PBA Philippine Cup Finals

TNT Tropang Giga team owner Manuel V. Pangilinan took to social media his thoughts about the referees' officiating in Game 3 of the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup Finals.

In a tweet after the Magnolia Pambansang Manok Hotshots defeated TNT, 106-98, Pangilinan, popularly known as MVP, wrote in a tweet, "Worst officiating by far tonight I’ve seen."

Some fans responded and cited a foul call on TNT's Brian Heruela which sent Paul Lee to the free throw line at the 3:00 mark of the second quarter.

Game 3 was also more physical than usual, with Troy Rosario being brought to the hospital due to a dislocated finger after a bad fall late in the third quarter.

Magnolia's Jackson Corpuz was called for a flagrant foul after the incident and was ejected from the game.

TNT big man Poy Erram spoke out about the level of physicality of the game as well as other acts that he took as disrespectful.

"Basketball is a physical game and everybody knows that. But if you do something beyond that: it’s downright disrespectful and it reflects on who you are as [a] person," Erram wrote in the caption of his post. "Taunting and trash-talk, that’s part of the game. If you get hit, prepare yourself and just play cause IT’S PART OF IT."

"But hurting someone on purpose and spitting on [their] faces and end up enjoying it???? You have no right to be in this league or anywhere else."

Though Erram did not name names, he added that he had no hate for the person he was referring to but just wanted "to remind him that you can be physical, taunt me, talk trash but don't you ever spit on my face or someone ever."

"You need to check yourself or get checked by someone because that's not a good thing."

Magnolia coach Chito Victolero, in the post-game press conference, also spoke about physical play but made it clear that his team doesn't want to see anyone hurt on either side.

"Our prayers also for Troy. We don’t want it to happen... And we don’t want any injuries on any other players. Because at the end of the day, isa lang naman ang aming trabaho eh," he said.

"We play physical. [When] we’re here in the court, parang magkakalaban kami. We’re fighting for our lives, we’re fighting for the championship. But after the game, our prayers sa lahat, not only for Troy, but for everybody na maging safe."

"Sabi ko nga, we’re warriors here on the court. Pero paglabas dito, we’re still friends and magkakasama kami. We don’t want it to happen."

TNT, which still leads to best-of-seven finals series 2-1, will try to bounce back and get a third win of the series on Wednesday.
