Manila Chooks TM's David Carlos reigns supreme in FIBA 3x3 Abu Dhabi Slam Dunk competition
David Carlos of Manila Chooks TM ruled the Slam Dunk competition in the FIBA 3x3 Abu Dhabi Masters held early Sunday morning (Manila time).
The 33-year old player, who dunked over three people for his final stunt, defeated Ukraine’s Vadim “Miller” Poddubchenko in the finals to win the title and $3,000.
Carlos said he gave his best in the tournament to impress Filipinos watching in the venue and prove that he can still compete alongside the world's best players.
“I just wanted to put on a show and to prove to myself that I can still compete with the world’s best,” Carlos said.
“I did not want to disappoint yung mga kapwa natin Pilipino na nanood dito,” the Filipino player said. “Kaya ako, kahit lamang na ko, tinodo ko po rin 'yung mga dunk ko kanina. Nasa isip ko kanina, bahala na kung ma-zero ako basta alam ko na binigay ko 'yung best ko.”
Carlos previously won in the 2017 Chengdu Masters edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, Rey Guevarra won in the 2015 Manila Masters.
