Chot Reyes references 'Ted Lasso' as he tips hat off to coaching staff after TNT's championship run
It looks like TNT head coach Chot Reyes is a fan of Apple TV's "Ted Lasso."
"Ted Lasso" is a show about fictional football coach Ted Lasso and his journey in the fictional club AFC Richmond.
In a post on Monday, Reyes used the show as a reference to describe his coaching staff, which were integral in the TNT Tropang Giga's campaign in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup.
Included in the photo were team manager Gabby Cui, Reyes' son Josh, and former player and now member of the coaching staff Ranidel de Ocampo, among others.
"As #tedlasso says, ‘every leader needs his diamond dogs," Reyes wrote.
"Diamond Dogs" is the term used by Ted Lasso to refer to himself and the other coaches of AFC Richmond, the fictional team in the series.
"These gentlemen are the gems without whose efforts the job would not get done," he added.
"Do you have people around you who support you yet tell you things you don’t want to hear, who’ve got your back but aren’t afraid to get in your face — your challenge network, your personal board of directors? Or have you surrounded yourself with mere ‘yes men’?"
This is not the first time that Reyes used "Ted Lasso" as a reference in explaining his answers.
In a press conference before the best-of-seven finals against the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok, Reyes also cited the series when he was asked about his thoughts on going against the Purefoods franchise anew after his last Finals stint in 2012.
"Naniniwala ako kay Ted Lasso eh. Sabi ni Ted Lasso, 'We need to have the memory of a goldfish.' Nakalimutan ko na 'yun."
(I believe in Ted Lasso. He said, "We need to have the memory of a goldfish." I forgot about it.)
Reyes and the rest of the TNT squad won the All-Filipino title after beating Magnolia in five games.
