Mikey Williams waxes hot from downtown as TNT spoils San Miguel Beer's return


Mikey Williams put on a show as the TNT Tropang Giga spoiled San Miguel Beermen's return in the PBA Governors' Cup, 96-81, on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

After the game was tied at 40 at the end of the first half, the Tropang Giga banked on a late run in the third period to take a 65-59 lead heading into the final frame.

The momentum continued to be on TNT's side as their lead ballooned to 12 points at the 7:37 mark of the fourth period after a Williams triple. TNT continued to pound on the Beermen as it had its biggest lead at 18, 96-78, on another Williams triple with 1:04 left in the game to eventually get the win.

Williams went hot from downtown, making 30 points on 7-of-15 triples, six of which were all made just in the fourth quarter. Import Aaron Fuller added 22 points on top of 26 rebounds, the only other player to score in double digits for TNT.

June Mar Fajardo had 22 markers and 14 boards in the SMB loss, while Vic Manuel and Terrence Romeo listed 18 and 15 points each.

With the win, TNT snapped their two-game losing skid and improved its record to 3-4. The Beermen, meanwhile, slipped to 3-3.

TNT will play its final game on Friday against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel before some of its players head to the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers which will start on February 24.

San Miguel will try to bounce back against Barangay Ginebra also on Sunday.
