Adrian Wong hits 6 triples as Magnolia routs Phoenix to stay unbeaten at 6-0

Adrian Wong waxed hot from deep to steer the unbeaten Magnolia Pambansang Manok Hotshots past Phoenix Super LPG, 103-83, in the PBA Governors' Cup on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Playing on a team with a stacked backcourt, the sophomore swingman was able to prove his worth as he finished with 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the three-point line to go along with two rebounds and two assists.

With Wong leading the locals, import Mike Harris also did great work in the paint as he registered a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds as Magnolia improved to 6-0.

Phoenix, meanwhile, will now fall to 5-4.

Magnolia pushed a 39-34 halftime lead to a 75-54 cushion at the end of the third with their five triples in the frame, three of which came from Wong while veterans Paul Lee and Mark Barroca each had one.

Wong again opened the payoff period with a triple before Harris took over, converting five straight points for an 85-61 lead.

The Fuel Masters, who were on a two-game winning streak prior to the game, answered with a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to 17, 90-73. But that would be their last-gasp run as an inspired Magnolia took the win.

"Coach (Chito Victolero) said that they were gonna come out strong so we just have to sustain our effort. We just want to take one game at a time," said Wong, who was signed by Magnolia in lieu of injured Calvin Abueva.

The scores:

Magnolia 103 - Harris 20, Wong 18, Lee 14, Barroca 13, Escoto 9, Corpuz 8, Sangalang 6, Reavis 6, Ahanmisi 5, Jalalon 4, Brill 0, Dionisio 0.
