SMB changes imports anew, taps Shabazz Muhammad to replace Orlando Johnson
San Miguel is making a tweak to its lineup as it tapped Shabazz Muhammad to replace current Beermen import Orlando Johnson, who was added to the team just barely two weeks ago.
Muhammad was originally recruited by the Meralco Bolts prior to the start of the season-ending conference, but decided to not push through due to personal reasons.
This time, though, there won't be any hindrance to his debut as Muhammad, a former 14th overall pick in the NBA, is ready to suit up for SMB in an important clash with leader Magnolia on Sunday.
SMB head coach Leo Austria said Muhammad's impressive credentials were too hard to pass up despite a great performance from Johnson who helped them pick up wins against Ginebra and Phoenix.
"First ang tinitignan namin is how to improve. Going to the playoffs, it's a different matter," Austria said in a story published in the league's website.
"If you are in the Top 4, you have the luxury of twice-to-beat (in the quarterfinals). If you're in the bottom (fifth to eighth), twice to beat ang kalaban mo. So every player na magiging available who could beef up the team (is welcome)."
This will be San Miguel's third import as they were first reinforced by Brandon Brown, who steered them to a 3-2 start before he was replaced by Johnson.
The Beermen will look to improve their 5-3 card as they square off with the Hotshots (6-1) who are looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to NorthPort last Thursday.
