Ateneo deals La Salle's first loss to maintain perfect record; UST, UP, NU pick up wins
The Ateneo Blue Eagles maintained its immaculate record in four games as it dealt the De La Salle Green Archers its first loss, 74-57, in UAAP Season 84 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Katipunan-based squad banked on a strong third quarter, making 23 points against DLSU's 13, to widen their lead to 58-45 after a 35-32 advantage at the half.
Ange Kouame delivered monster numbers for the blue and white with 16 points and 19 rebounds. Dave Ildefonso added 12 points while veteran Gian Mamuyac tallied 11 points and six steals.
Michael Phillips registered 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Taft-based squad, while Mark Nonoy and Evan Nelle added 12 and 10 points each.
Earlier, the UST Growling Tigers notched its second straight win after taking down of the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 79-72.
The UP Fighting Maroons also extended its streak to three after an 81-66 win over the UE Red Warriors.
In the Saturday action opener, the NU Bulldogs survived RJ Abarrientos' 33-point performance with a 73-68 victory.
Ateneo currently sits atop of the standings with 4-0, while DLSU and UP share an identical 3-1 card. NU and UST are tied at 2-2, while FEU and Adamson both have 1-3 cards. UE remains the only team that has not won a single game.
UAAP action will be back on Tuesday with fans allowed to watch live in the venue.
