NLEX bounces back at the expense of Meralco in heated match


The NLEX Road Warriors bounced back at the expense of the Meralco Bolts, 90-75, on Saturday in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Road Warriors managed to control the second half and limited the Bolts to just 16 and 17 points in the third and fourth periods after holding a 47-42 lead at the end of the first half.

Tensions rose in the third quarter due to physicality and technical fouls were given to Meralco head coach Norman Black and NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao for verbal altercation. Aaron Black was also whistled for a technical foul.

Don Trollano led NLEX with 19 points while JR Quinahan had 16 points. Justin Chua registered 15 points and 11 boards while Calvin Oftana had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Chris Newsome had 17 points while Reynel Hugnatan scored 10 for Meralco.

On Thursday, NLEX (3-2) will go against Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters while Meralco (3-2) will face Blackwater Bossing.

NLEX 90 – Trollano 19, Quinahan 16, Chua 15, Alas 14, Oftana 12, Rosales 5, Miranda 4, Ighalo 3, Soyud 2, Paniamogan 0, Semerad 0.

Meralco 75 – Newsome 17, Hugnatan 10, Black 9, Hodge 7, Maliksi 7, Caram 7, Jose 6, Banchero 5, Quinto 4, Pasaol 3, Belo 0, Baclao 0.

Quarter scores: 23-25, 47-42, 65-58, 90-75.
