Ginebra outlasts Terrafirma, extends winning streak to four
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel used a huge second half to cruise past Terrafirma, 106-82, and extend its winning streak to four in the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Japeth Aguilar led Ginebra with 22 points, seven blocks, six rebounds, and three assists as they improved to 6-1 to gain share of top spot with sister team San Miguel.
Ginebra led by 12 in most of the first half but Terrafirma rode on a strong ending to the second quarter, where they outscored the Ginebra, 30-22, to take lead at the break, 50-48.
During that huge second quarter, Juami Tiongson scored 11 of his overall output to put the Dyip ahead after the first two quarters.
Down 59-67 to open the third, Ginebra restored order after regaining the lead, 82-72, following a 23-5 closing run fueled by veteran LA Tenorio, Christian Standhardinger, and Aguilar.
Ginebra then built a huge 26-point lead, 106-80, to blow the game wide open as they sent Terrafirma sinking to a winless 0-7 win-loss card.
Apart from Aguilar, Standhardinger starred for Ginebra after he registered a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along seven assists and one steal. Tenorio chipped in 12 markers and six dimes while Arvin Tolentino posted 13 points.
Tiongson scattered 24 points but it was not enough as Terrafirma absorbed another loss.
