Scottie Thompson drops double-double as Barangay Ginebra beats Phoenix

Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings closed the elimination round with a 100-93 victory over Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters in the PBA Philippine Cup on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Phoenix led 4-2 in the opening minutes but Ginebra completely seized the driver's seat after a 9-9 deadlock in the first quarter, ending the frame with a 22-14 cushion.

The Fuel Masters cut their deficit off to 47-45 at halftime, but they lost steam in the second half as the Gin Kings led by as many as 13 points in the payoff period.

Japeth Aguilar led the charge for Ginebra with 17 points, while Scottie Thompson dropped a double-double performance of 14 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists.

Aljon Mariano added 13 points, while Stanley Pringle and Nards Pinto had 10 points apiece.

Meanwhile, Phoenix leaned on Jason Perkins and Sean Anthony, who finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Tyler Tio chipped in 13 markers and Larry Muyang tossed in 12.

With the win, Ginebra finished the elimination round with a 8-3 card. Phoenix was already out of playoff contention with 3-8.

Two games remain in the elimination round to determine the quarterfinals pairings. NLEX will face NorthPort on Friday followed by the match between Magnolia and Blackwater.
