Chot Reyes welcomes Alfrancis Chua's appointment as Gilas executive advisor

For Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes, the arrival of San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua into the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will be a welcome development given his background and experience.

Reyes said Chua was formally appointed as Gilas Pilipinas' executive advisor during the federation's meeting on Monday, where the basketball body tackled Gilas' roadmap to the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

"I welcome his appointment [and] I think it's a positive for the team," Reyes told GMA News Online in an interview.

As executive advisor, Chua, according to Reyes, will help in any way he can as Gilas Pilipinas approaches its crucial preparations for the global conclave as well as the Asian Qualifiers and the 2023 SEA Games. 

Chua has been a key figure in Philippine basketball, also serving as Barangay Ginebra team governor in the PBA while being a consistent supporter of Colegio de San Juan de Letran in NCAA.

"We need all the help we can get and like I said, this has to be really a whole country undertaking so everyone that's willing to help, they're welcome and it's just that the SBP formalized Alfrancis' appointment yesterday," Reyes, TNT head coach, added.

"He's going to help in whatever way he can sa amin sa Gilas, whether it's in the management or other logistics."
