St. Clare forces do-or-die against La Salle in PBA D-League semis


The reigning NAASCU champions St. Clare College of Caloocan forced a do-or-die Game 3 as they defeated De La Salle University, 72-64, in Game 2 of the PBA D-League semifinals on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After being down 34-29 at the end of the first half, EcoOil-La Salle powered through in the third period and turned things around against Adalem-St. Clare to finish with a 52-51 advantage.

However, St. Clare recovered in the final period and limited the Taft-based squad to just 12 points to take the win.

Johnsherick Estrada and Joshua Fontanilla combined for 43 points of St. Clare, with the former scoring a game-high 22 points. Senegalese big man Babacar Ndong had 15 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Ben Phillips was the only La Salle player to score in double digits with 15 points on top of six rebounds. Kevin Quiambao was limited to 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists in the loss.

Game 3 of the series will be on Wednesday.
