San Sebastian forces rubber match against Marinerong Pilipino in D-League semis
Apex Fuel-San Sebastian lived to fight for another day as they took down Marinerong Pilipino, 82-74, in Game 2 of the PBA D-League semifinals on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Marinerong Pilipino, the core of which is composed of players of Mapua, led 71-68 with six minutes left in the game before San Sebastian charged on a 10-0 run, six points of which came from Ichie Altamirano, to reclaim the lead.
Arvin Gamboa sank a triple to cut their deficit to four with 1:12 left before Altamirano made another shot to widen San Sebastian's lead. Rafael Are's free throws off a Jeric Pido foul sealed the win.
Romel Calahat registered a double-double performance of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Jessie Sumoda added 14 points on top of eight rebounds. Altamirano had a total of 13 points while Are and Alex Dosoyo had 10 points each.
San Sebastian spoiled Jollo Go's 28-point output, which was anchored on five of nine triples. Juan Gomez de Liaño had 11 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Rence Nocum had 10 points.
Game 3 of the series will be played on Wednesday.
