FEU routs JRU in Filoil action, Mapua forfeits another game due to health reasons

Far Eastern University routed Jose Rizal University, 76-42, to open Monday's action of the Filoil EcoOil Preseason tournament in San Juan.

It was a dominant win for FEU with Xyrus Torres scoring 11 points, while Patrick Sleat added 9 points to bring the Tamaraws to a 4-3 card at the end of the elimination round.

FEU currently sits at third place of Group B, and only the top four teams will advance to the crossover quarterfinals. JRU, meanwhile, remained winless in the preseason tourney.

Mapua University, on the other hand, forfeited another game due to health reasons.

Filoil EcoOil said Mapua would miss the 1 p.m. game against Arellano University because some of its players are in isolation.

"Six players have high fever and are in isolation for non-COVID-19-related illnesses, making the Cardinals unable to field a team for their match against the Chiefs," it said.

Mapua also missed the game against National University on Sunday as it could not complete a lineup for the said match.

However, the still winless Cardinals may play their last scheduled game on August 20 against Emilio Aguinaldo College.

"The team will once again be tested for the Cardinals' final game on Sunday, Aug. 20 against Emilio Aguinaldo College and those who receive negative antigen tests will be cleared to play for the said game," the league said.

"Filoil EcoOil Sports is putting the health and safety of the participants at an utmost priority with regular antigen tests conducted among players, coaches, and staff with the government-mandated protocols pursuant to those agreed upon by the organizers, the city government of San Juan, and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) being consistently observed at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan."

Later this afternoon, San Beda University will face the University of Santo Tomas, while Lyceum of the Philippines University will go against San Sebastian College-Recoletos at 5 p.m.
