Will Navarro issues statement cites 'misunderstanding, miscommuncation' in signing with KBL's Seoul Samsung

Gilas Pilipinas player Will Navarro on Thursday issued a statement about his situation with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

In his statement, Navarro apologized to the basketball body for his "error" and the "misunderstanding and miscommunication" due to his signing with Korean Basketball League team Seoul Samsung Thunders.

"Last Monday, (Sept 19, 2022) I attended the Gilas Pilipinas Monday Practice session at Meralco Gym in positive response to the invitation to me and to show my support and commitment to the National Team," Navarro shared. "I reached out to Coach Chot Reyes, Mgr. Butch Antonio, and Exec. Director Sonny Barrios, who were present."

"Today, I met with Exec Director Sonny Barrios at his office and reiterated my sincere apology for my error and the misunderstanding and miscommunication caused by my signing up with the Samsung Thunders of Korea," he said.

Navarro said he now recognizes his existing contract with the basketball body and the provision about the rights of his PBA drafting through NorthPort Batang Pier.

"Since the fallout of my actions, I have sought professional assistance and am now once again under the advisement of a management team that will assist me with contracts and commitments moving forward," Navarro said.

"I seek the kind understanding and generosity of the SBP, the PBA and the NorthPort Batang Pier Team to give me a chance to pursue my and my family's dreams for my basketball career. I pledge to abide by whatever decision they may arrive at regarding my case," he added.

The former Ateneo de Manila player said he is committed to Gilas Pilipinas, which is why he attended the national team's practice.

"Lastly, with this apology and clarification, I trust that we will all be united for the good of Gilas Pilipinas and Philippine basketball."

It was reported last July that Navarro will bring his talent to South Korea
