Chery Tiggo brings back Aaron Velez as head coach

Chery Tiggo is bringing back a familiar face to handle the Crossovers in the upcoming 2023 season of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) next month.

On Monday, the team announced that its former mentor Aaron Velez will return to his post as the Crossovers' head coach, replacing Clarence Esteban at the helm.

"Coach Aaron Velez previously led the Crossovers in 2021 to become the first ever pro champion volleyball team in the country," the team said in a Facebook post.

"The experienced coach is returning to take the wheel and lead the Chery Tiggo Crossovers back to the top this coming PVL 2023 All-Filipino conference on February 4."

Velez steered Chery Tiggo to the 2021 PVL Open Conference title against powerhouse club Creamline with the sister act of Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat taking over for the Crossovers as they became the first-ever pro volleyball champion in the country.

But Velez was then made as the team manager with Esteban calling the shots in the previous season.

Velez will look to lead Chery Tiggo anew, especially after losing Santiago-Manabat, who transferred to Akari Chargers.
