Zamboanga Valientes' Mario Chalmers speaks about former teammate LeBron James' NBA scoring record

Two-time NBA champion Mario Chalmers was recently tapped by Zamboanga Valientes as an import for the 2023 ASEAN Basketball League Invitationals.

Chalmers played for the Miami Heat from 2008 to 2015 where he was part of the team's championship runs in 2012 and 2013. One of his teammates during that run was LeBron James, who recently became the NBA's all-time scoring king.

For Chalmers, James' recent achievement shouldn't be that surprising given the longevity of the latter's career.

"A player like that who has that longevity, that type of career, that's not hard to break that record," Chalmers said in Chino Trinidad's 24 Oras report on Friday.

"Like he says, he never intended to go out and try to break the record. It's just something that happened," said the NBA champ.

After Chalmers' chapter in the NBA, which included a stint with the Memphis Grizzlies, he also played for other international teams such as in Greece and Puerto Rico. With this, he said he is thankful to the sport, which brought him all over the world.

"This sport has been with me all my life, something I'm pretty much good at that I've been doing for my whole life so it took me all over the world," he said.

"The whole point of playing basketball is winning the championship. Once you've done that, there's nothing else you can do on a team aspect. The only thing left after that is individual goals."

Chalmers' Zamboanga squad missed the ABL Invitational playoffs as they fell to the Singapore Slingers, 97-87, on Thursday.
