Gilas Pilipinas starts SEAG gold redemption campaign with 45-point rout of Malaysia


The Philippine men's basketball team started its redemption campaign back to Southeast Asian hoops domination with an annihilation of Malaysia, 94-49, on Tuesday in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia.

It was a wire-to-wire win for Gilas Pilipinas as the nationals limited the Malaysians to less than 20 points in each quarter.

Gilas led by as much as 50 points first late in the third quarter, 82-32, before having it again in the 5:35 mark of the fourth period, 92-42.

Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser led Gilas in scoring with 15 points, while Justin Brownlee had 11 points. Arvin Tolentino scored 10 points while Mike Philips flirted with a double-double after tallying nine points and 15 rebounds.

Yi Hou Wong was the only double-digit scorer for Malaysia with 15 points.

Gilas will face Cambodia next on Thursday.
