Gilas Women's SEAG three-peat bid hits bump with loss to Indonesia
The Philippine national women's basketball team suffered its first loss, 89-68, against the unbeaten Indonesia squad on Friday in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, with the national team's bid for a third straight gold medal taking a hit.
Gilas Women had the lead at the end of the first half, 37-35, before the Indonesians outscored the Philippines in the third period, 28-12, to take the lead, 63-49, at the end of the third quarter.
Indonesia eventually took control of the game and dealt the defending champs their first loss.
Janine Pontejos had 11 points while France Cabinbin had 10 points in the loss which brought Gilas' record down to 2-1.
Kimberley Pierre Louis registered a double-double 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Yuni Anggraeni posted 24 points in the Indonesia win which improved their standings to 4-0.
The team with the best record in the tournament will claim the gold medal.
Gilas will play Vietnam (1-2) next on Saturday.
