Gilas Women bounce back with obliteration of Vietnam


The Philippine national women's basketball team rebounded on Saturday from a loss against Indonesia with a dominant win over Vietnam, 116-58, on Saturday in the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.

After ending the first quarter leading by ten points, 35-25, the Gilas defense shut down the Viets and limited them to just nine points against their own big 33-point performance to end the first half at 68-34.

Gilas controlled the rest of the game before eventually getting their third win in four games.

Six players scored in double-digits for Gilas with Khate Castillo posting 22 points, while Jack Animam registered a double-double of 16 points and 13 boards.Clare Castro scored 15 while Afril Bernardino had 12 points. Janine Pontejos and Camille Clarin made 11 in the win.

In contrast, only Thao Vy Truong scored in twin digits for Vietnam with 15 points.

The nationals will play Thailand in their next assignment on Sunday.
