Rhenz Abando, Thirdy Ravena among basketball honorees in 2023 Collegiate Press Corps Awards


NCAA Season 97 Most Valuable Player Rhenz Abando and UAAP Season 82 Finals MVP Thirdy Ravena are among the basketball players to be recognized in the upcoming 2023 Collegiate Press Corps Awards.

The Collegiate Press Corps, composed of reporters from different print and online media covering the NCAA and the UAAP, will hand out three sets of Collegiate Basketball Mythical Five selections from the past three athletic seasons.

Each Mythical Team is composed of players from both the NCAA and the UAAP.

For the 2022-23 batch, UAAP Season 85 Finals MVP Ange Kouame of Ateneo de Manila University leads the pack, along with Season MVP Malick Diouf of University of the Philippines and NCAA Season 98 MVP Will Gozum. Colegio de San Juan de Letran's Louie Sangalang and Adamson University's Jerom Lastimosa are also named in the Mythical selection.

Abando, meanwhile, will head the 2021-22 Mythical Team, along with UAAP Season 84 finalists Kouame, Diouf, and Carl Tamayo of UP, and Letran's Jeo Ambohot.

Ravena is part of the selection for the 2019-20 season, along with University of Santo Tomas' Soulemane Chabi Yo. Letran's Fran Yu and Jerrick Balanza and San Beda University's Calvin Oftana represent the NCAA side in the said batch.

The Awards, which will be held on May 29 at The Hummingbird Rooftop Bar in Quezon City, is presented by San Miguel Corporation and the Philippine Sports Commission, with Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Appliances, and Handyman also supporting the event.
