Phoenix squanders 26-point lead but recovers to beat San Miguel Beer in PBA On Tour

Phoenix Super LPG blew a huge lead but recovered just in time to deny San Miguel of a comeback win, 106-101, in the PBA On Tour on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Fuel Masters led by as many as 26 points halfway through the second period, but the Beermen slowly chopped that deficit to trail by just 11 to end the third frame, 89-78.

Big man Mo Tautuaa then ignited their fourth quarter rampage, fueling a 23-9 run to take the lead at 101-98 with 2:23 left in the game. But a timely triple from Tyler Tio proved crucial as it gave Phoenix a 102-101 cushion in the final 48 ticks.

Raul Soyud then notched a basket before Daniel Atienza sank both his free throws to seal the deal.

Eight Fuel Masters reached double-digit scoring. Simon Camacho led the way with 15 points off the bench laced with eight rebounds while Tio finished with 14 markers.

RR Garcia and Larry Muyang each poured in 11 points as Sean Manganti, Jayjay Alejandro, Kurt Lojera, and Soyud each chipped in 10.

Phoenix's win spoiled a 27-point outburst from Terrence Romeo, who also had seven assists and five rebounds in the game.

Earlier, Allein Maliksi waxed hot off the bench to steer Meralco to a 97-89 win against NorthPort as the veteran sniper dropped 21 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point area alongside four rebounds and three assists.

Bong Quinto registered 14 markers while Anjo Caram and Cliff Hodge each poured in 11 points with the latter chiming in with 10 boards to finish with a double-double mark.

The PBA On Tour returns on Friday, May 26, with Converge and Terrafirma going at it in the opening salvo at 5 p.m. before NLEX and Rain or Shine collide at 7:30 p.m. at the same venue.
