Lyceum solidifies hold on second spot, eliminates San Beda in FilOil action
Lyceum of the Philippines University strengthened its hold on the second spot in the 2023 FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup after cruising to a wire-to-wire 87-79 victory against San Beda University on Friday.
Lyceum improved to 6-2 while eliminating San Beda (3-5) in the process as University of Perpetual Help System DALTA remains in the lead with a 6-1 card.
After enjoying just a two-point advantage at the halftime mark, 36-34, the Pirates banked on a strong third quarter to pull away for good from the Red Lions as Jearolan Omandac drilled a triple for a 71-53 cushion with 1:03 left in the frame.
Lyceum never looked back since then as San Beda could not anymore recover.
John Barba dropped 22 points while team captain Enoch Valdez chipped in 15 markers, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Gyle Montaño shone off the bench with 13 points to help the cause.
Bryan Sajonia continued flexing his might for San Beda as the transferee registered a team-high 19 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
