Ian Sangalang returns as Magnolia downs Ginebra in PBA On Tour faceoff; Rain or Shine routs Terrafirma

Ian Sangalang had a successful return to Magnolia as the Hotshots held off Barangay Ginebra, 91-80, on Sunday in the PBA On Tour at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Sangalang played for 16 minutes and logged four points, four rebounds, and an assist in his return since missing a chunk of their campaign in the PBA Governors' Cup.

Mark Barroca led the Hotshots with 20 points, while Jerrick Ahanmisi and Jackson Corpuz chipped in 17 and 11 points each. Jio Jalalon was a rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while James Laput had eight points on top of grabbing 12 rebounds.

The game was tied at 74 with 5:50 left in the fourth period before the Hotshots made a 5-0 run. Raymond Aguilar answered with a floater but an Ahanmisi triple gave Magnolia a six-point advantage with 3:43 remaining in the frame.

As free throws from Kim Aurin and Jeremiah Gray gave Ginebra a glimmer of hope despite Barroca's basket at 3:19, it was a 5-0 run from Barroca's layup followed by a triple from Paul Lee which gave Magnolia enough breathing room in the endgame. Laput's shot at the 1:05 mark sealed the win for Magnolia.

The win spoiled Aguilar's 22-point performance for Ginebra. Aurin scored 12 points while Von Pessumal had 11 markers.

The win extended Magnolia's streak to four while Ginebra remained winless in two games.

Earlier, Rain or Shine dismantled Terrafirma, 121-95.

PBA On Tour action will return on Wednesday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig when Converge takes on Blackwater at 5 pm and Ginebra faces Phoenix right after at 7:30 pm.
