FEU Tamaraws rule Agusan invitational tiff
The Far Eastern University Tamaraws reigned supreme in an invitational tournament held in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur after defeating local team Wingbe Apartelle & Adbio Medica OPC, 86-65, on Thursday in the finals.
FEU won the four-team pocket tournament that also included fellow collegiate teams Adamson University and Lyceum of the Philippines University.
ARQ Builders-FEU led 59-49 as the fourth quarter opened and continued to overwhelm the local select team with their 27-point output in the period to take the win.
Xyrus Torres posted 22 points while Patrick Sleat had 16 points for the Morayta-based squad.
For head coach Denok Miranda, it was a good win but they will need to resume training once they come home to Manila as they still have a lot of work to do.
"Magandang experience ito para sa mga bata dahil tough teams 'yung mga nandito pero syempre malayo pa kami doon sa gusto naming puntahan," said Miranda. "Chine-cherish namin itong panalo ngayong gabi pero siyempre pagbalik ng Manila, back to zero na kami ulit."
(This is a good experience for them since the teams here are tough but we're still far from where we want to be. We'll cherish this championship tonight but once we go back to Manila, we'll be treating it as back to zero again.)
Bustamante Construction-Adamson University defeated Vincare Pharma-Lyceum of the Philippines University, 89-82, to finish third.
