Gilas Girls crush Maldives, 144-22, to go 2-0 in FIBA Asia U16 Division B

Gilas Pilipinas Girls didn't show any mercy, ripping an overmatched Maldives team by 122 points in a blowout 144-22 victory to remain unscathed in the 2023 FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship Division B on Tuesday night (Manila time) in Amman, Jordan.

The big win came just a day after the youngsters pulled off a 79-40 triumph against Hong Kong to kick off their campaign on Monday night.

10 of the 12 players from the Gilas squad reached double-digit scoring with Sophia Anne Canindo leading the way with 21 points off the bench alongside six assists, four rebounds, and two rebounds.

Ma. Christina Aubrey Lapasaran and Nevaeh Smith poured in 16 markers apiece while Ariel Star De La O finished with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds to go with four assists.

Gilas Girls now leads Group A with a 2-0 card ahead of their match against host Jordan on Wednesday.

Gilas needs to finish at least at the second spot to book a semifinals ticket. The winner of the tournament will be promoted to Division A of the 2025 FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship.
