Gilas Pilipinas Girls dominate Malaysia to book finals ticket in FIBA U16 Asian Championship
The Philippine national girls' basketball team dominated Malaysia, 79-44, in the semifinals of the FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship on Saturday in Jordan to book a slot in the tournament's Division B finals.
Gilas Pilipinas Girls started to pull away in the second quarter as they outscored Malaysia, 30-14, in the said frame to end the first half at 45-27 in their favor. The nationals then took control of the game as they limited Malaysia to just 17 points in the second half to clinch the ticket to the finals.
Ava Fajardo led the Gilas Girls with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Ariel Star De La O also posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Shing Ting Ophelia Wong led the Malaysians with 16 points.
With the win, Gilas will face Iran in the finals on early Monday morning (Manila time) where they will have a chance to be promoted to Division A.
