Eric Cray makes early exit in 400m hurdles event of world championships


Filipino-American track star Eric Cray was unable to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 World Athletics Championships after absorbing an early exit in the men's 400m hurdles event on Sunday in Budapest, Hungary.

The reigning six-time SEA Games gold medalist finished seventh in Heat 2 after clocking in 50.27 seconds, abruptly ending his campaign at the worlds event that also serves as a qualifier to the 2023 Paris Olympics.

The top four athletes in each heat and the next four fastest will advance to the semifinals slated later today.

Kyron Mcmaster of the British Virgin Islands topped their heat with 48.47 seconds-finish while Rasmus Magi Estonia, Trevor Bassitt of USA, and Wiseman Were Mukhobe of Kenya occupied the next three spots to clinch a semis berth.

Meanwhile, two other Filipino bets will compete in the tournament with Robyn Brown seeing action in the women's 400m hurdles heats later today while world no. 3 pole vaulter EJ Obiena will compete in the men's pole vault on Wednesday.
