Gilas to submit Final 12 on Wednesday; 13 players attend practice

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes said that the team will submit the final 12 names who will compete in the 2023 FIBA World Cup during the technical meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 23.

This after only 13 players from the original pool were in attendance for Tuesday’s open practice, three nights before opening day.

Jordan Clarkson, Scottie Thompson, CJ Perez, Kiefer Ravena, RR Pogoy, June Mar Fajardo, AJ Edu, Kai Sotto, Japeth Aguilar, Dwight Ramos, Jamie Malonzo, Rhenz Abando, and Chris Newsome were the ones present in the practice.

Other pool members such as Thirdy Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, and Calvin Oftana were not in attendance.

When asked about some of the players who were not present, Reyes asserted that he and his staff will still make the final decisions in time for the technical meeting.

“Basta we will submit in the technical meeting tomorrow,” said the Gilas mentor.

Oftana played in only one of the three tune-up games that the Philippines played this past week, while Parks and Ravena were not fielded into any of the contests.

Gilas will open their World Cup campaign on Friday, August 25, against the Karl-Anthony Towns-led Dominican Republic.
