Undermanned Gilas Women miss medal in FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup
A short-handed Gilas Pilipinas Women team fell short of a podium finish after absorbing a 22-9 loss to Japan in the semifinals of FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup on Sunday in Singapore.
The Filipinas, who were missing the services of injured player Camille Clarin, were then defeated by China in their battle for third place, 21-11, to ultimately bid goodbye to medal.
In an update, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced that Clarin suffered high-grade partial tear on her ACL following an MRI examination. The longtime Gilas shooter sustained the injury midway against their preliminary game against Australia on Saturday.
Without Clarin, the three-woman Gilas squad still put up a fight with Mikka Cacho leading the way against the Japanese team, posting five points and four rebounds while finishing with six markers and six boards against the Chinese.
Australia ended up with the gold after pulling off a close 21-17 win over Japan in the gold medal bout.
