PBA: Zamboanga Valientes says it's nearing deal to acquire Terrafirma franchise

Zamboanga Valientes says it's nearing deal to acquire Terrafirma franchise

The Zamboanga Valientes said it was now in talks to potentially join the PBA.

The Zamboanga-based basketball club on Monday said it was in talks with Terrafirma in a bid to acquire the franchise and enter the league. It added that it was awaiting league approval to push through with the deal.

“Owning a team in the PBA would yet be another milestone for the city and people of Zamboanga. Big things are coming for Zamboanga basketball. Arriba Zamboanga! Viva Valientes!” said team owner Junnie Navarro in a statement.

Zamboanga has already proven its capacity to field competitive teams in tournaments in the past, having tapped ex-NBA player Mario Chalmers, who played for the Miami Heat alongside LeBron James, during the 2023 ASEAN Basketball League Invitationals. They have also brought in the likes of DeMarcus Cousins when the club saw action in The Asian Tournament in Zamboanga City in 2024.

The Valientes also recently competed in the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship.

“Zamboanga Valientes has a proven competitive track record both in the Philippines and the international basketball scene. Owning a franchise in the PBA is the next step towards our goal of showcasing Zamboangueño talent on the big stage,” Kings Asia Pacific President Cory Navarro added.

Should the deal get through, Zamboanga could make its PBA debut in October, the team said.

GMA Integrated News has reached out to the PBA for comment, but they have yet to respond.
