How Jeremy Sochan's mom influenced him in basketball

Growing up, San Antonio Spurs player Jeremy Sochan has been surrounded by people who love hoops.

His parents were basketball players back in college, but for Sochan, it was his mom who taught him a lot about the sport.

"I learned a lot, especially from my mom. She's a point guard, so she sees a lot of stuff. She coached me a little bit, too," Sochan said last Wednesday in his visit at the NBA Philippines office.

Sochan was in Manila for the NBA Rising Stars Invitational Philippine qualifiers which was held last Saturday.

"It was great to be around that. And I think, you know, just in general, sports is a big thing in my family. So just being able to keep that going and kind of inspiring younger kids in my family and stuff, I think is important. And just taking care of everyone, too."

Sochan added that it is also important for him to give back to aspiring basketball players.

"I played in multiple high schools in Germany and England, a little bit in America. And I think, for me, it's just super exciting to be in an environment where there's, younger kids playing," he said.

National University's boys and girls team will be heading to Singapore as they ruled the Philippine qualifiers of the NBA Rising Stars Invitational.
