‘It’s time’: Letran’s Cuajao, Roque, Omega hope for the best in PBA Draft

For Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Deo Cuajao, Jun Roque, and Mark Denver Omega, “It’s time” to throw their names into the PBA Rookie Draft.

Cuajao and Roque are both 23 years old, while Omega is already 24.

By next season, the NCAA will revert to its old rule, setting the maximum age for eligible players at 24, making them ineligible to play next year.

However, more than the age limit, it was their head coach Allen Ricardo who encouraged them to submit their applications.

“Sabi rin naman ng coach namin, it’s time. Not next year. It’s time,” Cuajao told GMA News Online.

Ricardo, in a Facebook post, even vouched for his senior players.

“A tough banger who can defend both the 4 and 5 spots. Strong in the post, with a reliable mid-range and even three-point touch. He runs the floor on both ends and gives maximum effort every possession,” Ricardo said about Omega.

The Knights’ head coach described Cuajao as "A sharpshooter who thrives in catch-and-shoot situations. He’s a consistent perimeter threat, can be set up in multiple offensive actions, and also plays as a hard-nosed defender.”

On Roque, Ricardo said, “Long, athletic, and versatile. He can knock down outside shots, especially from three, while also being a committed defender who brings energy and length on both ends of the court.”

“All three bring something valuable to the table,” Ricardo added. “They’re fundamentally sound, coachable, and good listeners — qualities that give them a strong chance to succeed in this year’s PBA Draft.”

Asked where they would like to be picked, Roque said he hopes to be selected by Converge. Cuajao and Omega, meanwhile, said they’re simply hoping for the best, though Omega admitted it would be ideal to be drafted by San Miguel.

“Kasi idol ko si June Mar,” the big man said.

Still, all three will continue to suit up for the Knights in the upcoming NCAA Season 101.
