PBA: Barroca’s late explosion pushes Magnolia past Terrafirma; Converge notches back-to-back wins

Mark Barroca scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to power Magnolia’s late rally past Terrafirma, 104-93, in the PBA Philippine Cup on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Dyip trailed 89-84 midway through the final frame before the Hotshots launched a 10-4 run, six points of which came from Barroca.

Prince Rivero’s split from the line off an Ian Sangalang foul brought Terrafirma within 89, but Sangalang’s own split and baskets from Zavier Lucero denied the Dyip’s comeback bid despite Paolo Hernandez’s late four-point play.

Barroca finished with 17 points, making all eight of his field-goal attempts and his lone free throw. Jerom Lastimosa added 16 points for the Hotshots.

Later, Converge notched its second consecutive win at the expense of Phoenix, 128-114.

Alec Stockton led the FiberXers with 22 points, while Juan Gomez de Liaño tallied 19 points, 12 assists, and four rebounds.

Both Magnolia and Converge now hold identical 3-1 records, while Terrafirma and Phoenix dropped to 1-3.
