Ricky Vargas elected as new SBP president
Ricky Vargas has been elected as the new Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president, replacing longtime basketball chief Al Panlilio at the helm.
Vargas, a veteran sports official, was elected as the new president after previously serving as the basketball body’s vice president.
He also serves as the current PBA chairman, the TNT governor, and the Philippines’ chef de mission for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Manny Pangilinan was also elected as SBP chairman while June Cheryl Chaye Cabal-Revilla will serve as the vice chairman. Completing the officers are vice president Robert Uy, secretary Marievic R. Anonuevo, treasurer Lennie G. Nocum, and executive director Erika Dy.
“This new SBP Board is a healthy mix of wisdom-filled veterans and passionate young leaders who share a common purpose — to build a stronger, more unified future for Philippine basketball," Vargas said.
"We’re setting the foundation for the next generation of sports leaders to continue the growth and excellence that Filipino basketball is known for.”
