SEA Games: Gilas Pilipinas escapes Indonesia to reach gold medal round

2025 SEA Games: Thirdy Ravena of Gilas Pilipinas v Indonesia

Gilas Pilipinas completed a come-from-behind win against Indonesia, 71-68, on Thursday in the semifinals of the 2025 Southeast Asian Games men’s basketball tournament in Thailand to advance to the gold medal round.

The Philippines trailed 25–13 early in the game before an 18–7 second-period run by Gilas cut the deficit to one, 34–33, by halftime.

In the second half, the Philippines continued to pound Indonesia, limiting them to 12 points while scoring 21 to take a 54–46 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

After building what appeared to be a commanding 68–52 lead with around five minutes remaining in the final frame, the Philippines had to withstand a late Indonesian rally that cut the deficit to two with 22.1 seconds left.

However, Robert Bolick’s split from the free-throw line eventually sealed the victory for the national team.

Thirdy Ravena had 16 points, six boards, two assists, and one steal, Jamie Malonzo had 13 points, while Ray Parks added 12 points to go with seven rebounds, two steals, one assist, and one block for Gilas Pilipinas.

Derrick Xavierro, meanwhile, led Indonesia with 22 points, 15 rebounds, four blocks, an assist, and a steal, while Abraham Grahita and Dame Diagne chipped in 13 points apiece.

The Philippines will take on the winner of the semifinal match between Thailand and Malaysia in the finals.

Earlier, Gilas Pilipinas Women also advanced to the finals after dethroning Indonesia in the semifinals.
