PBA: Converge taps new import as Donovan Smith makes return
Converge is making a move to salvage its PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup campaign, switching imports in a last-ditch bid to reverse its fortunes with Donovan Smith set to return to the league.
The FiberXers have tapped Smith to replace Kylor Kelley with three games left in their elimination round run.
Smith, of course, is no stranger to the PBA as he previously reinforced Phoenix in the Season 49 Commissioner's Cup where the Fuel Masters only managed three wins against nine losses to finish 12th among 13 teams.
He's now making a PBA comeback to help Converge save its fading campaign.
Incidentally, Smith will mark his PBA return against the Fuel Masters on Sunday.
The FiberXers opened their campaign with a promising 102-94 win over guest team Macau, but they lost their next five games. They have now won two of their last three games, beating Titan Ultra and TNT behind the local crew.
Smith's arrival comes after a dip in performance from Kelley, who dropped a seven-point and six-rebound outing in their 106-94 loss to Magnolia. He was then held to just four markers and nine boards in their 97-92 win over TNT last Wednesday.
