Rene Baterbonia's remains to be flown to Davao aboard private plane
A private plane carrying the remains of the late Ateneo student-athlete Rene Baterbonia is expected to depart from Manila for Davao anytime soon.
According to a contributed video posted by GMA News, the private plane is expected to take off anytime from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Cargo Terminal.
A wake and public viewing for Baterbonia – who drowned during a team activity in Dipaculao, Aurora last Monday – will be held at the Ateneo de Davao University, his high school alma mater.
His remains will later be brought back to his hometown in Agusan del Sur.
Baterbonia and teammate Divine Adili drowned during a team-building activity at a resort in Dipaculao, Aurora last June 8.
A wake was held at the Arlington Memorial Chapel in Quezon City, which his teammates and other members of the coaching staff of the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team attended.
Head coach Tab Baldwin has yet to appear before Baterbonia’s family despite attending a vigil at the Katipunan campus.
Baterbonia is a standout from the recent Palarong Pambansa and was an incoming rookie for the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the upcoming UAAP Season 89.
On the other hand, the Nigerian Embassy said Adili’s family requested for an autopsy before his remains are flown to Nigeria. — JMA, GMA News
