Gilas Pilipinas Boys dominate Singapore, improve to 2-0 in FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers

The Gilas Pilipinas Youth Men’s team cruised to its second straight victory in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers, overwhelming Singapore, 110-50, on Thursday in Thailand.

The Philippines asserted its dominance from the opening tip, holding Singapore to just 23 points in the first half while building a commanding 56-23 advantage at the break.

Gilas Pilipinas continued its onslaught in the third quarter, outscoring Singapore, 33-13, to stretch its lead to 89-36 heading into the final period.

Singapore attempted to trim the deficit in the fourth quarter, but the Philippines remained firmly in control. Gilas built its largest lead of the game at 61 points, 98-37, with 6:53 remaining before cruising to the emphatic victory.

Prince Cariño led the way with 21 points, seven rebounds, one steal, and one block, while Joaquin Tovera contributed 17 points, seven assists, and three steals.

Patrick Pasinos and Kyle Sardon chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, while Ziv Espinas added 10 points. JB Cagurungan finished with nine points, Bruce Tubongbanua scored seven, and Andrew Chio added six.

Chog Moral had five points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals.

Shabbir Ahmad Bin Shajan paced Singapore with 14 points.

The Philippines will next face host Thailand later Thursday as it looks to remain unbeaten in the tournament.
