Ateneo de Davao retires Rene Baterbonia's No. 2 jersey

Ateneo de Davao University has officially retired the No. 2 jersey of the late Rene Baterbonia.

The announcement was made last Sunday during the final day of Baterbonia’s public viewing at the university. It came alongside an earlier announcement that a basketball court would be named in his honor.

“These are lasting testaments to a young man whose heart and talent left an indelible mark on everyone who watched him play,” Ateneo de Davao said in a social media post.

Baterbonia’s remains have since been brought to Agusan del Sur.

Baterbonia starred for Ateneo de Davao, helping the team reach back-to-back Palarong Pambansa Finals. The school won the title in 2025 before being dethroned by Region IV-A CALABARZON in the succeeding edition.
