PBA: San Miguel makes it rain in 52-point rout of Macau
San Miguel took advantage of a depleted Macau side to pull off a dominant 131-79 win in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Montalban.
The Beermen torched the Giant Pandas with huge first half and never took their foot off the gas pedal to improve to 6-2 in Group A while the undermanned Macau fell to 2-6.
George King and Don Trollano took turns in the first half as San Miguel surged to a 43-point halftime edge, 80-37, even with June Mar Fajardo scoring none in the first two quarters and CJ Perez sitting out the game.
That massive halftime separation also allowed San Miguel to set a new all-time halftime lead.
“We’re also thankful na natapos itong game in spite of maraming interruptions because of the rain si we’re glad na natapos ito in a nice way for us,” San Miguel head coach Leo Austria said.
San Miguel import George King posted 19 points to lead the balanced scoring while shone with 17 markers off the bench together with six assists and three rebounds as San Miguel captured their back-to-back wins.
The lopsided win also gave San Miguel the luxury of maximizing the rest of its bench with Jericho Cruz and Jeron Teng chipping in 14 and 13 markers each while JM Calma had 12 points in brief apperance.
“One thing I discovered, katulad ng last game, ay ‘yung balanced scoring from the bench,” Austria added.
“Actually mas malaki ‘yung ini-score ng bench namin kaysa sa starters namin and that is what we are projecting.”
Macau, which was missing import De’Vondre Perry and shooter Jenning Leung, leaned on Kobey Lam and Damian Chongqui, who finished with 24 and 23 points apiece.
