Strong Group-Pilipinas beats Korea to keep Jones Cup three-peat bid alive

Strong Group-Pilipinas exacted revenge against Korea’s Wonju DB Promy, 113-87, on Wednesday in the 2026 Jones Cup in New Taipei City, keeping its bid for a third straight title alive.

Strong Group previously lost to Promy, 110-79, earlier in the tournament.

The Philippine representative started strong, taking a 51-35 lead at halftime before pulling away despite the Korean team’s attempts to cut the deficit. Promy made a late push in the fourth quarter, scoring 35 points, but Strong Group answered with 39 to secure the win.

Matthew Wright led Strong Group with 24 points, while Tajuan Agee added 22 points and 14 rebounds. Ian Miller contributed 19 points, DJ Fenner had 16, and Boban Marjanovic finished with 10 points.

The Philippines improved to 4-1 and will face Chinese Taipei Blue on Thursday in its final group-stage game.

Strong Group-Pilipinas needs Japan to beat Promy and must also defeat Chinese Taipei Blue to keep its three-peat bid alive.
