Gilas Pilipinas Women fall to Canada in FIBA Women's Pre-OQT
The Gilas Pilipinas Women fell to Canada, 85-38, in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday (Thursday, Philippine time) in Guadalajara, Mexico.
World No. 7 Canada came out strong early, limiting the Gilas Women to just 11 points in the first half as it took a commanding 46-11 lead.
The Philippines tried to mount a comeback in the third period, outscoring Canada, 18-16. However, the Gilas Women were held to just nine points in the final frame, while Canada added 23.
Jack Animam led the Philippines with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Vanessa de Jesus and Kacey Dela Rosa added nine and eight points, respectively.
Syla Swords paced Canada with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Jasmine Bascoe chipped in 10 points.
The Philippines, now 0-2 in the tournament, will face Senegal on Friday.
