Las Vegas - Much was expected from former US Olympian Jose Ramirez in his professional debut. Only a handful of fighters are selected to fight in the undercard of a big Las Vegas card and having a guy in his professional debut fighting there is a rare occurrence. However, Ramirez showed everyone that the slot was not wasted on him.
Referee Vic Drakulich stopped the fight at the 2:05 mark of the first round to hand Ramirez a technical knockout win over Corey Siegwarth, whose record now drops to two wins and two losses.
Ramirez is following a familiar path in boxing. He is promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Promotions and is trained by Freddie Roach, not unlike Manny Pacquiao who will be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time in the main event.
The fighter from Avenal, California, who dropped out in the Round of 16 in the 2012 London Olympics made sure that his professional boxing career started auspiciously. Siegwarth had three fights under his belt but he looked lost after Ramirez started his attack. He floored Siegwarth with a body shot in the middle of the first round and finished Siegworth off half a minute later.
Up next will be Mercito Gesta challenging Miguel Angel Vazquez for the IBF lightweight title. This will be followed by Michael Farenas versus Yuriorkis Gamboa battling for the interim super featherweight title. - AMD, GMA News
