Marquez may not want to fight Pacquiao again, says 'there is no point'

If you were looking forward to seeing Manny Pacquiao get an opportunity to exact revenge on Juan Manuel Marquez this year then you're about to be disappointed, as the 39-year-old Mexican who knocked out Pacquiao back in December 2012 is now saying that "there is no point" in Marquez vs Pacquiao V. [Related: Juan Manuel Marquez to forgo retirement] Marquez, who opted not to retire after finally knocking out his long-time rival, recently told Miguel Rivera of BoxingScene.com, "I think there is no point [in a fifth fight]. We already achieved the desired result. Then why do it? "I also asked several people, several friends that I have around me and they told me not to do it, that there is no point in a fifth fight. I said before the fourth fight that no matter how this fight ends, there cannot be a fifth," Marquez added. After beating Pacquiao, Marquez had contemplated retirement, with his wife urging him to hang up his gloves. Instead, he opted to extend his career by another year, with many presuming it was because of the huge payday he would get as a result of a fifth bout with Pacquiao. At the beginning of February however, Marquez's promoter, Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, also began casting doubt on a fifth go-around with the Filipino ring icon, saying, "It has not been determined that it is Pacquiao [whom Marquez will fight next]. If [the demand] is for another opponent, then we'll take another fight. [But] we are not ruling anything out. "We may face [Pacquiao], but right now he is not the official opponent….Juanma can fight anywhere in the world. He is the best pound for pound. At this time around, he does not depend on Pacquiao. We are going to fight anyone that people demand us to," he added. Pacquiao-Marquez V had been tentatively penciled in for September 2013, with the two boxers taking part in a tune-up bouts against separate opponents prior. - Adrian Dy, GMA News
