Mayweather is BWAA's Fighter of the Year

Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been named 2013 Fighter of the Year bt the Boxing Writers Association of America, The Ring magazine's Lem Satterfield said in a report, Tuesday (Wednesday, PHL time).

Mayweather took home The Sugar Ray Robinson award after getting a unanimous decision win over Robert Guerrero in May 2013, and a majority decision versus Saul Alvarez in September of last year.

Al Haymon, advisor to Mayweather, among others, took home Manager of the Year.

Mayweather was last named Fighter of the Year in 2007.

In other awards, Fight of the Year went to the March 16 WBO welterweight bout between Timothy Bradley Jr. and Ruslan Provodnikov, which Bradley won.

Manny Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach was honored with Trainer of the Year for the sixth year. - AMD, GMA News
